Tulsi tea FAQ

What is tulsi?

Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum), or holy basil, is a basil plant grown in India, where it has been brewed as a tea for centuries. It is a different plant from the sweet basil used in cooking.

What does tulsi tea taste like?

Tulsi tastes peppery and warm, with notes of clove and mint and a light natural sweetness. The flavour is softer than sweet basil and works well on its own or with a little honey.

Does tulsi tea contain caffeine?

No. Pure tulsi is a herbal infusion and is naturally caffeine-free. Blends with green tea or yerba mate, such as Healthy Edge, do contain caffeine.

How do I brew tulsi tea?

Use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 250 ml cup and freshly boiled water at about 95°C. Steep 5 to 7 minutes; a longer steep gives a fuller, spicier cup. Tulsi is also good iced.
